Ace: Week Seven, Day Five

Awesome-ness:  Ace baby-sat Bethany and taught her to talk!

Kristina slept fitfully. She didn't know if it was because Ace played the damn radio in his room while he slept or what.  It was so irritating!  It reminded her that she hadn't intended to stay forever. She rolled over on her side and glanced at him as he slept.

It was going to kill him when she told him...

Jesse and Holly went downstairs for breakfast. "I don't know what I did right, but I'll do it every day," he said with a huge grin on his face.

Holly laughed.  "You always say that!" she said as she grabbed a plate of waffles from the refrigerator.

"Hey! It's always true!"  He said as he lifted up a plate of leftovers from the counter and sniffed at it.

Holly squeezed her eyes shut as he licked the plate clean.  “God, there's fresh food in the refrigerator,” she said with a wince.

Jesse shrugged. “Ain't killed me yet!” he said somewhat proudly.

Holly shook her head. “You are such a slob, dear.”

Jesse winked. “See you tonight. Good luck at work.” He ambled upstairs to go to sleep.

Holly sighed and pulled out her laptop to prepare a few notes for her meeting with Simis this morning.  She was very close to getting a promotion and one step closer to getting them to trust her.

Which was damn hard to do when her father was the new Crime Boss in town...

Holly glanced down at her watch. “Dammit,” she cursed. “I have to go!” She hurriedly shut down her laptop and ran to work.

When she got home, she sat down next to Ace and asked, “Could you watch Bethany for us tonight? I'd like to have a birthday dinner at my father's place.”

Ace shrugged as he flipped through the channels.   “Sure thing,” he told Holly. “She's easy to take care of!” he bragged. “Besides, it'll be awesome!”

Holly laughed as she shook her head.  Her step-son was so easily impressed!  “Thanks,” she said, patting his knee. "I appreciate it!"   Then, as she stood up, she yelled up the staircase, "Come on, Jesse, it's time to go!"

She felt a wave of nostalgia wash over her as she walked into her family home.  She couldn't wait to show Jesse her old room!  Hopefully Kaylynn hadn't rearranged everything!

Her father had set out a birthday cake on the table.  Thankfully, Kaylynn just scowled and went upstairs to leave the Altos to celebrate in peace.  Holly shook her head.  Why did the Langerak's have to be such an unpleasant family?   She'd heard rumors that Candace Langerak had finally managed to sink her claws into the sweet boy Kelly Landgraab. It was such a good thing that Jesse had raised his son instead of leaving it to those Langerak's!

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” everyone cheered as Holly blew the candles out on the cake. Jesse added, “You look like a monkey...” She smiled at her husband.

She might be an old woman now, but Jesse made her feel like a blushing bride!

After making a little small talk over cake, the Blacks took their leave and left the Altos to their evening.  What a wonderful evening, she thought as they left.

Kristina ate her dinner at the bar, still feeling this ever-present nausea.  She worried that she might be... no... no... it couldn't be.  She couldn't be pregnant...
