Ace: Week Ten, Day Five

Awesome-ness:  Ace finally has awesome, spectacular woo-hoo...

Ace had taken Tracy out to the local diner to talk over drinks and explained that he wasn't ready to settle down into one relationship.  He tried to explain that it wasn't her - it was him.  And that he'd just recently started dating again after raising the boys his entire young adult life.

He told her about Staci...

He shouldn't have been surprised when she'd walked away with tears in her eyes.

Deciding it had been for the best - Ace threw a costume party and invited everyone over.  He glared at the kids and told them that they'd all better be on their best behavior.  It was rough raising three teens!  Someone always seemed to wake up in a bad mood!

Ace broke the ice by playing a little music for his guests.  Everyone stopped what they were doing and listened with awe.

Then, he put away the guitar and headed around to talk to all his guests.  He'd headed over to talk to Staci first.

"Nice costume," he told her, thinking up all sorts of fantasies for that costume...

"This old thing?" she asked, fluffing the skirt.  "Just a leftover from my cheer leading days!"

Oh man, Ace thought eagerly.  His fantasies just quadrupled!

"So, do you want to stay for the after party?" he asked her with a grin.

Just then a gasp went around the room.

Holly had fallen...

Ace raced over to her side and stroked her hair back from her face.  "Hol? Are you okay?"

No answer.

"Hol?"  He hesitantly held his fingers to her pulse.  He hung his head in grief.  She was gone...

"Is she okay?" Bethany sobbed behind him.  "Ace? Is she okay?"

Slowly he shook his head and Bethany collapsed into Topher's arms.

Topher gently stroked Bethany's back.  "It's going to be okay, Bethie," he told her repeatedly.

Ace walked around, quietly thanking people for coming over and seeing them out.  He glanced around and noticed that Staci had slipped away sometime.  He guessed they didn't have that sort of relationship.

He glanced over at Topher consoling his sister.  It would've been nice to have someone to comfort him...

Sighing, he grabbed the trash and took it out to the trash can, then stopped suddenly.

"Tracy?" he asked with surprise.

Tracy ran up to him and wrapped her arms around him. "I just heard, Ace.  I'm so sorry!"

Words failed Ace, he just clung to Tracy desperately.

"I know you said that you didn't want anything serious," she said, "But I couldn't stay away after hearing about Holly.  Are you okay?"  Tracy embraced him, running her hands through his hair.

There was a suspicious lump forming in the back of his throat and Ace couldn't talk even if he'd wanted to.

Upstairs, Ace shrugged out of his costume as Tracy slipped out of her dress.  He kissed her gently and then groaned, resting his forehead against her own.  "I haven't done this for awhile..." he said hesitantly.  Like... since before the boys were born...

Tracy stroked his cheek, trying to reassure him.  "It's okay," she assured him. "We can stop if you want.."

Ace tugged her closer.  "I don't want to stop, I just don't want you to have unrealistic expectations," he said with a self-deprecating laugh.

Then, all thoughts flew from his head as they began kissing again.

Tracy cuddled up against Ace's side and sighed.  "That was wonderful!" she said dreamily.

Ace laughed and pulled her closer for another kiss.  "That was pretty awesome," he agreed.  "But I think I could do better.  We should probably do it again..."
"Again? Already?" Tracy said with surprise.

Ace just grinned as he slipped back under the covers.  "It's been a long time for me and I am definitely eager to make up for lost time!"

Sleep didn't come to Bethany.  Topher had tried to console her, but he couldn't stay all night...

She wandered up to her mother's room and traced the sheets with her hand.

"Mama..." she said with tears in her eyes, laying her head down on the pillow.

Finally exhaustion claimed her.

  1. Poor Bethany! That must have been a terrible shock for everyone. :(

    1. I wasn't expecting it. There was a lot of sobbing at the party after Holly's passing! I loved the picture of Topher comforting Bethany!
