Chase: Week Fifteen, Day Three

Neurotic Obsession:  The Black family welcomes a new addition!

Yvonne panted as the labor pains rolled over her.  "Go... get your father..." she said after one particularly painful contraction had passed.

Eva didn't need to be told twice!
"Daddy! Daddy!" she yelled as she ran up the stairs.

By the time she rushed into his room, Chase had already rolled out of bed and was running towards her.  He gripped her shoulders, "Are you okay?" he asked.

Eva nodded, attempting to drag in a few breaths.  "Mother's having the baby!"

"It's going to be okay," Chase told her, throwing on his clothes.
On the way out, he called his Aunt Bethany.  "Do you mind coming to sit with the kids?" he asked as he rushed after Yvonne.

"Daddy! You're home!" Eva called as she hurried over to her dad.  "Can I see?"

Chase smiled as Eva came rushing to see her newest sibling.
"Meet your brother, Greyson," he said with a smile.
"Really, Daddy? Greyson Black?" she asked with a roll of her eyes.  Eva played with her little brother's toys for a minute before looking up at her dad.  "Daddy?" she asked sadly.  "Are you going to replace me?"

Chase's jaw dropped, stunned by the sadness in his little girl's eye.  "No! Never! What makes you think that?" he asked with concern.

Eva shrugged.  "I dunno," she mumbled.

"Hold on a second. I'll be right back," Chase said.
He gently laid Greyson in his crib to sleep, turning the child monitor on.

Then he rushed back out to Eva.
Leaning down, he whispered in her ear.

Her eyes immediately lit up.
She hurried off to grab Farrah.  "Come on, Farrah! You're not going to want to miss this!" she said excitedly.
"It's Music Morning!" she cheered as her dad began to play a lively song on the bass.  Eva danced and wiggled and jumped in time to the music.

Farrah cocked her head, but didn't seem very impressed.
"I'm trying to sleep!" Yvonne snapped with frustration as she stomped down the stairs and took in the scene below.
"Eva! Go get ready for school!" she said, shooing her daughter from the room.  Eva stomped off past her.  Ugh! Children! she thought with irritation.
Then she turned her sights on Chase.   "What were you thinking?" she demanded.  "I just gave birth and I was trying to sleep! But I can't if you're down here playing that stupid bass!"
"Well, maybe I'll just go down to the theater to practice!" Chase snapped.

"By all means, GO!" Yvonne said with a flourish of her hands.
Chase scowled and turned on his heel, striding from the house while Yvonne sank down to the chair nearby.  Burying her hands in her hands, she thought, Oh God, what am I going to do?

Chase's practice on the stage turned into an impromptu show when a few girls slipped in to watch him perform.  He hadn't even noticed them come in until he'd heard them clapping when he'd finished.

Looking up, he saw his Dad at the back of the theater watching.
"Dad! What are you doing here?" Chase asked, giving his father a hug.
"Oh, you know, this and that.  I still get to say my piece with the board," Ace said with a smile.  Then, hitching his chin towards the stage, he added, "That was some very intense playing.  Anything you want to talk about?"

Chase hesitated.  Part of him wanted to confide in his father all the difficulties he was having with his marriage.  But, as he told his father that everything was fine, he realized that the other part of him worried that if he gave voice to his unhappiness that there would be no going back.  His family had never been thrilled with his choice of Yvonne and he knew they'd stand behind him if he chose to leave her.

He shook his head slightly.  What was he thinking? he thought frantically.  It was just a rough patchNo need to even think about divorce...
Ace pulled his son in for another hug, aching for his son.  Chase had always been so serious and rigid.  He'd always thought Yvonne was all wrong for him.  But his oldest-by-a-minute child was too obstinate and stubborn to admit failure in anything.  "I'm here if you need to talk about it," he said with a squeeze.  "Anytime..."

Yvonne laid Greyson in the crib, followed shortly by Farrah.  She'd sent Eva to her room hours ago for talking back.  Ugh! No wonder she was losing her touch!  She was constantly negotiating with children!
Walking out to her laptop, she absently opened her e-mail and barely glanced at her inbox.  100 messages in such a short time period.  With a sigh of disgust, she shut the lid, powering the laptop down.

Her gaze hit the recent photograph of her family.   This is my family, she thought as she gazed at her children's smiling faces.  Her eyes took in the look in Chase's eye and the way his arm was casually draped behind her back.  This is my family...

She lowered her head with a sob and buried her face in her hands as her heart pinched uncomfortably.

Chase came home late that night and walked up the stairs with drooping shoulders, as though he carried the weight of the world.  When he entered the room quietly, he saw that Yvonne was fast asleep.
Laying down next to her, he propped his head on his hand and stared at her morosely.  She was his wife and the closet person in the world to him - but sometimes he felt so far from her.  Especially lately...
"Chase?" she asked sleeping, rolling over.  "Is that you?"

Chase smiled.  "Who else would it be?" he said teasingly.
Yvonne wrapped her arms around Chase and hugged him close, pressing her body against his.  "I'm so sorry, Chase," she said urgently, her words running together in a rush.  "I don't mean to be so unreasonable! I don't know what's wrong with me!" she ended with a sob, burying her face in his neck.

Chase wrapped his arms around her and held her tight.  "I know, Yvonne," he said, desperate to comfort her.  "I know! I love you," he said, his voice full of emotion, close to tears himself.  "I love you!"
"You're not going to get sick of me and leave me?" she whispered with tears in her eyes.  "I'm such a mess!"

Chase wiped the tear away from her cheek. "Never!" he promised.

  1. LOL at the girls coming in to check out the sexay bass player.

    1. Hehehe.. Chase has groupies. :)

I especially love that I gave them nice little chairs to sit in, but they all have to STAND while they listen to his music. It's a theater, people! SIT! Geez...

  2. Oh, PLEASE say this is the turning point. I'm seriously about to be over Yvonne if she doesn't get her priorities in order.

    1. It IS a turning point! (One of many!)

I was really bummed Chase rolled 3 kids because I really didn't want Yvonne to have another child. I even considered ending their relationship early so he could find someone to love, like Jesse & Ace did. The writing was on the wall - they sucked in a relationship!
