Eva: Week Twenty, Day Five

Perfectionist To-Do List: Attend wedding, Wrap present, Prepare nursery

"I'm so happy!" Eva Black-Wolff said as she held little Haley in her arms.  Tenderly, she adjusted the little lavender headband in her daughter's hair.

Nathaniel grinned across the stretch of the car.  "It should be some wedding. Greyson and Izzie have been planning it!"

Eva chuckled.  "She's assured me it's going to be tasteful."

Nathaniel scoffed, "Right, as tasteful as two 19 year olds can get!"
Nathaniel and Eva walked up the drive and saw the wedding arch and all the wedding guests gathering nearby the little koi pond.

"Don't look now," Nathaniel said, "Farrah & Seth at 3 o'clock."
Eva sighed wistfully. "Not even Farrah could ruin this day for me!" she said as she ran a hand over her pregnant belly.  Although, she wished she could fit into something a little bit more pretty than her current outfit...

"Here goes nothing," she said under her breath as she girded  herself to greet her boss, the mayor, and her sister.
Farrah kept glancing askew at the squirming toddler as Eva greeted them, so she made her excuses and dropped Haley off with the other toddlers.

"Good girl," she told Haley as she kissed on the head.  "Play with your cousins!"
Haley had more important things to do...

"Daddy!" Eva exclaimed, hurrying over to greet her father.  "You look so handsome!"
"And look at you two!" she added, kissing Izzie on the cheek and giving Greyson a huge hug.

Greyson adjusted his tie.  "You ready, Pop?" he asked.

Chase adjusted his own tie and nodded.

Chase Black and Sandra Goth stood beneath the wedding arch, vowing to love and honor each other until the end of their days.  Greyson and Izzie served as the best man and the bridesmaid.  Throughout the vows, they snuck glances at each other, obviously planning their own wedding.
Sandra Goth slipped the ring on Chase's finger and looked up into his eyes.  "This is a pretty big commitment," she joked.  "But I'm glad I made it with you."
Eva sighed as she watched her Dad and her new stepmom shared their first kiss as a marital couple.  It made her stomach flip with butterflies.
Restlessly, she rubbed at her aching back, startled when the butterflies returned after a short while.
"Nathaniel..." she whispered in his ear.  "I think it's time..."

"I wish I'd remembered to bring the video camera!" Nathaniel said as he hurried behind Eva.

Eva rolled her eyes. "Enough about the video camera already!" she groused.
Hours later, they brought home their newborn son, Ian Black-Wolff!

Eva: Week Twenty, Day Four

Perfectionist To-Do List: Ultrasound at 2 pm, Repack diaper bag, Bake cake, wrap presents

Sleep... Eva needed more sleep... all the time.  For some reason this pregnancy was draining the life out of her!
Of course, it probably had nothing to do with caring for a one year old baby while pregnant!

Chase was hanging out in the studio, waiting to meet with Farrah to make the final edits to his dad's documentary.  He'd watched a draft they'd titled "Melvin Wolff: Envisioning the Dream," which he'd thought had been an honest and complimentary glimpse into his Dad's life.

"So now that you're done with the filming what are you going to do?" Mick Murphy asked.  Mick was trying to get picked up in any bit part, especially now that his new girlfriend, Michelle Gardiner, had wound up pregnant.  Nathaniel vaguely remembered Michelle was the red-head that used to run around with Farrah and Joan.

"That's it for me!" he said.  "I was just doing this for my Dad. But, I dunno... I thought I'd keep my mind open..."

Mick ran his hand through his hair and blew out an agitated breath. "Man! You're so lucky! You're Melvin Wolff's son! Of course they're going to give you more work! It's actors like me that have a hard time making a break!"
Nathaniel was interrupted when his phone started ringing.  He excused himself and answered.  "Nathaniel Black speaking," he said without looking at the caller id.

"Sugar, this is Farrah," she said quickly.  "I've run into a little snag," she said in a low voice.  In the background, he heard a lot of noise and commotion.

"What?" he asked.  "We need to film an exclusive interview with a local celebrity, but my cameraman quit at the last minute, can you believe it?  He said I was difficult to work with!" Her voice began to rise in volume the more agitated she became.  "You've been playing with that camera of yours.  Can you come over and help me out?"

Nathaniel's mouth dropped open. "Farrah, I don't think that the video camera is the same as..."

"Oh, just come out and keep the damn camera steady. It's not rocket science!" she snapped.  As though she belatedly realized that she got more flies with sugar, she softened her voice, "I really need your help.  For old time sake?"

Nathaniel hedged, but grudgingly agreed. "I'll come right over."

Eva looked around the room and smiled.  She'd decorated for Haley's birthday party.  She couldn't wait for everyone to show up.  Glancing at her watch, she frowned though.  Where was Nathaniel? She'd attempted to call him and he hadn't answered.
Soon, she was distracted by the guests that began arriving.  "Hey Tomas. Have you heard from Nathaniel this afternoon?" she asked, zeroing in on his best friend.

Tomas shrugged, "No, I talked to him when he was on the way to the studio."

"Hmm, thanks anyway. Make yourself at home!"

She smiled over at Artie.  "Thanks for coming Artie!"

Then glancing back at the door as it open, she grinned widely. "No!"
Laura shyly looked down at her toes.  "Hey Aunt Eva," she said in greeting.

"Laura! Look how you've grown!" Eva said brightly, stroking her hair.  "And your hair! It's so gorgeous!"  She looked over at her sister-in-law inquisitively.  "Where are the boys?"

Shamika let out a frustrated breath.  "They're at home with a babysitter! I swear! Nobody ever warns you about the mischief boys will get up to!"

"Oh that's a shame. It would've been nice to see them again!"

Nathaniel wasn't quite sure how it had happened, but he'd wound up sharing a ride back home with Farrah.

"Thanks, you really pulled through for us," Farrah said as they walked up the driveway.  "Who knows? Maybe you have a future in filming," she cracked.

"Yeah, maybe," Nathaniel responded non-committally.  He was just ready to wash his hands of Gibbons Star Search.  A bunch of parasites!
Farrah underscored it by smirking over her shoulder, "Don't look at my ass," as she wiggled suggestively ahead of him.

Nathaniel grunted and made sure to keep his gaze averted as he trailed up the stairs behind her.

Inside he looked around for Eva & saw her frown from across the room because he was walking in with Farrah.  He shrugged apologetically, You know how she is as she rolled her eyes, I can't believe you fell for it.  He loved how well they could communicate without saying a word.

"Now that daddy's here! It's time to get the party started!" Eva called out, heading into the nursery to get Haley.

Nathaniel took his chance to greet everyone, giving his brother Cliff a quick hug in greeting.  "How've you been man?" he asked.
Cliff shrugged, "Good, I guess. Kind of hard to go back to the grind after living the dream for awhile! Not that you'd know!" Cliff joked as he elbowed his younger brother.
Eva rolled her eyes when she saw that Farrah had made a beeline towards her boss, Seth Davies.  She wished she hadn't invited him because he was directly responsible for inviting his new fiance Farrah.

Seth's campaign advisers had done major damage control when Joan Alto had threatened to release pictures of his and Farrah's affair.  In response, Farrah had put Joan back in touch with the highschool teen-throb, Jason Calhoun, who as luck would have it was recently single after breaking up with his girlfriend Michelle Gardiner because she'd found out she was pregnant and the father was not Jason.  Eva didn't think it was a coincidence that the father was one Mick Murphy, the starving actor chomping at the bit to get any type of role.

Seth and Farrah together were worse than Felix and Yvonne any day of the week!
"Okay, it's Haley's big birthday!" Chase said, talking to the camera.  "Happy Birthday!"
Hayley grinned at her Daddy.
Many slices of cake later and Haley was rubbing her eyes.   Grandpa chase gently took her from her mother.  "I'll put her to bed," he said happily.  "Grandpa's got you, doesn't he?"

"Hey, you got everything ready for the big day?" Greyson asked Eva before he headed out.

Eva grinned as she hugged her brother goodbye, "I wouldn't miss it for the world!" she assured him.

Eva: Week Twenty, Day Three

Perfectionist To-Do List: Drop off Haley at daycare, Repack diaper bag, Lunch out with Artie

The little house was a bustling hotspot at seven in the morning.  Vanessa Vanderbilt & Cece Powers smiled at each other as they headed up the walkway.
Eva sighed as she got out of the car and began unstrapping Haley from her car seat.  She wasn't ready for this! She had to fight against an intense desire to just get back in the car and run home.  Taking a deep breath, she began the long way up towards the front door.
"Eva! Hi!" Veronica Hernandez smiled in greeting.  "Come on in!"
Eva nervously followed Veronica inside.

"Just put her anywhere!" Veronica said as she turned to talk to Vanessa.

Eva walked across the room towards the little pink crib and gave Haley a quick snuggle before laying her down.
I am not ready for this, Eva thought again with a heavy sigh.
"Thanks for agreeing to watch Haley," Eva said as she walked up to Veronica.

Veronica waved her hand.  "Well, if I'm going to be home with Johnny anyways, what's one or two more babies!"

Eva winced.  "I was so sorry to hear about Tomas..."  she began to say.

Veronica waved her hand again. "It is what it is," she stated firmly.

"Well, thank you again.  Nathaniel'll be by to pick her up after he's done at the studio," she said awkwardly.
Veronica sighed as she looked around the bustling room.  She had managerial experience! She'd never expected to have to open a daycare while she was trying to make ends meet!  But, this is where she was right now.

She'd pressured Tomas to make a decision... and he had...

...he'd chosen Sonja.

Veronica was giving Haley her bottle when she heard a tapping on the door.  She glanced at the clock on the wall.  Nathaniel is early, she thought as she laid Haley back down.  "Coming!" she called out.
When she opened the door, she felt the blood drain from her face.  Her gaze was riveted on the little girl in Tomas' arms.
"You're too early," she snapped angrily, sticking her finger in Tomas' face.  She was set to refuse him entrance.  He wasn't supposed to pick Johnny up until after 5 pm.  And how dare he bring her with him?!
"Veronica, look, I was just in the neighborhood and thought I could pick him up a little early.  There's no need to be unreasonable about this!" Tomas said, frustrated that his relationship with Veronica had soured so badly that he had to fight to see his son.  Karma, a niggling voice in his mind whispered.

Veronica opened her mouth to serve him a scathing set down and demand he leave her porch, but Tomas stopped her by holding up his hand.  "Not in front of Rachel, okay?" he said.

"Then you shouldn't have brought her to my house! Where's your wife? Can't she watch her?" Veronica demanded.
Nathaniel pulled up after work to pick up Haley and spotted big trouble.  Veronica and Tomas looked like they were about to brawl.  Crap, he thought as he hurriedly put his car in park and hopped out of the car.
"Hey Veronica!" he called out with a wave.  "How's it going?!"
Veronica turned away from Tomas and gave Nathaniel a friendly smile.  "Haley was wonderful today.  She's such a sweet little girl!"

"Great Veronica. Eva was really worried!"  he laughed, attempting to diffuse the tense situation.  Turning to Tomas,  he asked, "Hey, here to see Johnny?"  He knew how much it killed his friend to be missing out on his son's milestones.  But after Tomas had chosen to marry Sonja, Veronica had moved out and filed for primary custody.  She'd made it clear that if she could, she would've denied him any time at all.

Tomas attempted to smile.  "Yeah, just dropped by to pick him up alittle early..."

"Well, come on in," she told Nathaniel, then glaring at Tomas, she added grudgingly, "I guess you can come in, too."
Nathaniel headed to the crib to get Haley.  He was ready to get out of here and leave the two to their discussion.

He heard Tomas gasp. "He's getting so big!" when he saw Johnny playing by the window.  "Mi hijo!" he called out as he set Rachel down to get a hug from his son.  He glanced back at Veronica. "I'm missing too much..."
Nathaniel glanced back and saw Veronica tense.  The situation was about to come to a head...

"You know, we set up specific times for a reason, Tomas. You can't just come over here whenever you want," Veronica said defensively again.

"God, Veronica..." Tomas said, his shoulders bunching.

"I'll let you two catch up," Nathaniel said awkwardly as he slung the diaper bag over his shoulder and slipped from the room.

As he shut the front door, he heard the accusations and arguments begin.  He shook his head sadly that Johnny and Rachel had to listen to it...

"They're at it again," Amelia Landgraab said sourly with an extreme eye-roll.
Eva glanced over. "Why are you looking at me?" she asked defensively.

Amelia shut off her computer and started gathering up her purse.  "She's your sister!"

Eva glanced at the window between Seth's office and their work room.  Although the blinds were drawn, it was obvious what was going on in there...
Eva thought it was quite unprofessional.

Eva walked straight into Nathaniel's arms.  "I'm so glad to see you!" she breathed out when he wrapped his arms around her.  "I'm beginning to lose such faith in humanity!"

Nathaniel smiled sadly, thinking about the argument between Veronica and Tomas, "Yeah, I know what you mean."
"I just get so mad! I feel like I'm stuck in one place!" Eva grumbled.  "All Seth is interested in is getting campaign contributions and schmoozing!  He doesn't really care about the town, the people, or anything!" she raged.
"I want to make a difference, you know?!" she continued, but stopped abruptly.
"Oh," she said, grabbing her stomach and covering her mouth quickly, her eyes widening with alarm.

"Are you okay, babe?" Nathaniel asked worriedly.

She nodded, but hurried from the room.
Must've been bad sushi that I had for lunch with Artie, Eva thought as she brushed her teeth.  There was no other explanation for...
...wait... or...  Eva mentally counted back the days and reached for the spare pregnancy test in the vanity.
Flying from the room, she hurled herself into Nathaniel's arms.  "We're pregnant!" she cried out excitedly.  "We're pregnant!"
Nathaniel couldn't help the grin that spread across his face. "Yeah? You sure?" he asked.

She nodded quickly, so happy that she was almost speechless.
Nathaniel ran his hand over her flat belly.  "I can't wait!"
